Last week, my Program Advisor and I were invited to be on my local TV news station for a “Cooks Corner” segment. We were able to present two breakfast items from our school lunch menu: smoothies and parfaits. We also were able to share and explain what the Fuel Up to Play 60 program is all about.

Check out the video here!

This was a great learning experience for me because I was able to see real, thorough and professional work being done- it was so much fun! Everyone there was very nice and knew exactly what things to ask in order for us to be able to explain our talking points. We talked with the reporter for about eight minutes before recording the segment. We only needed to run through it once, and in the end I got a free smoothie!

My Program Advisor and I demonstrated how to make strawberry banana smoothies that we offer twice a week in our school kitchen. We also talked about how the smoothies and parfaits are a great option for students because it is very easy to pick it up in the cafe and then be on their way to class.

All in all, the segment was extremely short, only three minutes! However, I was able to take away so much. Through Fuel Up to Play 60, I have been able to grow my public speaking skills and experience so many vital life lessons about leadership.

I really enjoyed being able to do this segment and I hope for more opportunities in the future.
