Bike N Hike Huddle PhotoThis Indiana Elementary School kicked off their Fuel Up to Play 60 program for the 2014-15 school year with their fourth annual Bike-n-Hike on September 9, 2014.  The event was a community-wide event with more than 400 staff members, students, parents, family members, and community members biking or hiking. The Bike-n-Hike was led by a police officer, the school principal, and even the Mayor! Fuel Up to Play 60 Program Advisors Laura and Leisa also rode with the bikers. The “Artsy Bikes” bikes ridden by these four adults were part of the community’s initiative to build and sustain safe bike routes throughout the town.

Fuel Up to Play 60 Ambassadors Kaden, Thomas, and Taylor helped to plan the event by decorating and then walking or riding bikes from the local library to the school. The three unanimously say, “It was really fun!”  Here are some of the highlights and some of their favorite parts:

Bike N Hike Huddle Photo 3We had nutritious snacks provided by our food service. I really liked the vanilla-flavored milk. Our Dairy Council supports our event because we are supposed to drink milk for healthy bodies as part of fueling up. I also liked the obstacle course. You had to do three “hula-hoops” and then jump over hurdles. Then you rode on a scooter around cones. Finally you had to crawl through a tunnel. We also had a chance to win cool prizes for signing up for Fuel Up to Play 60 online in our computer lab.

There were delicious snacks such as vanilla milk, whole grain goldfish crackers, and blueberry yogurt parfaits. There was a milk mustache booth that was really fun!  A mustache was painted on with whipped cream and you stood in front of a “cow” board. And you got to take a picture with your milk “MOOstache!”

Bike N Hike Huddle Photo 2My favorite part was when I got to hold the Colts’ Super Bowl trophy! We had to put gloves on.  It was really heavy! The Colts’ trailer came to our school. Inside the trailer, there were pictures and displays where you could see the cheerleaders’ outfits and football player uniforms. There were really fun games in the gym. You could climb on the climbing board and do other activities.
