Last year I was in gym class and there were a few students with disabilities in my class. Unfortunately, some of the other students in my school were not very accepting and constantly mocked and made fun of them. My friends and I were noticing this rude behavior and decided to put a stop to it. The next day we talked about making a difference. We all talked with all of the students during our classes, and later we partnered everyone up in the tennis unit for gym. You could see the difference we had made mirrored on everyone’s faces. It felt amazing to make a difference.

I was so inspired, I decided to volunteer as a helper for the Special Olympics. The Special Olympics is a program for kids and adults with disabilities to try and compete in different sports, like bowling. This year I see some of those same kids from my gym class in the hallway and they say, “Hi Abby, see you at bowling later… I’m so excited!”

This opportunity is amazing and Fuel Up to Play 60 has taught me and my friends to stand up for what we believe in and make a difference.
