Today is National Milk Day! How many of you have every wondered what it is like to be a dairy kid on a dairy farm? I have an answer for you, because I live on a family dairy farm in California. We have 550 milking cows and about 1,000 animals total. My uncle supplies the feed for the cows once a day, and the feed is then pushed up three times a day so there is fresh feed all day. The feed is basically their breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks all together.
We have this product called cotton seed that we feed the cows, where the seed from cotton ball is removed so cotton can be used for clothes. I like to go down to the pile of cotton seed and play in it because it is soft and fluffy! We also grow corn and oats on our dairy farm to feed the cows, and we grow alfalfa hay on our Oregon ranch for the cows to eat. We plant sweet corn (the kind we eat) and silage corn (the kind cows eat). I really like the sweet corn with butter on it! We have a Polaris Ranger ATV which I get to drive sometimes, and that’s fun because not all 12 year olds can drive. We also have vehicles called buggies for our herdsman and my dad which use no gas and run on electricity.
My dad makes sure the cows are healthy and fit, which is important like you staying healthy and fit with Fuel Up to Play 60. I like to go out and help my dad to make sure the cows are healthy. We use handheld computers to keep records of the animals (I am scanning the cow’s ID tag to view her health on the computer in the photo below). I see my family making sure the animals are healthy and taken care of and I like that because I know that people like dairy products and milk. My favorite dairy product is ice cream. What is yours?

that sounds super cool I wish the place where I lived it was that fun but no where I live its quiet and boring.it sort of makes me sad I wish there was more to do like you do 🙂
