I have been fortunate throughout my time with FUTP 60 to serve on the Youth Council, rub elbows with Joe Thomas for 4 years, speak at the NFL Combine, and much more. Even with all the exotic experiences this program has given me, there is nothing I will cherish as much as assembling name tags at the Student Ambassador Summit each summer.
My first Summit in Dallas, I waltzed in on the first day, and was given my name tag, t-shirts and water bottle. In the 3 summers to follow I found myself assembling the name tags mere hours before students’ arrivals, folding t-shirts, counting water bottles, you name it. Come this July, I will be assembling the name tags for the final time, but I know what the drill will be. I will start out working on them with maybe 2 others…by the end the whole Youth Council will be sitting around peeling the backs off the magnets, popping the decal strips out, lining up the plastic and paper, all while laughing and catching up.
To those who assemble the name tags in the years to come…enjoy it. Enjoy the remedial task that you get to do while catching up with your friends, enjoy it because you know it will make the Student Ambassadors day when they see their name on one at check in. And to the Student Ambassadors who will get to wear the name tag, know it was made with love, and a certain type of proudness that we got to do that for you, hoping one day you get to do it for others.
