As someone with a type A personality, the holidays can stress me out instead of serve as a break. I’ve decided to set two New Year’s resolutions that are purposely ambiguous so that I can’t pressure myself to try and fulfill them perfectly. The first one is to force myself to be able to let go. It’s hard to not dwell on one’s failures and I find that doing so inhibits the pathway to success. Letting go can also mean instilling more trust in the others around you. I’ve found that it’s important to be able to delegate jobs and have confidence in those you work with. But, this is a skill I haven’t fully developed and therefore I am not able to take my leadership ability to the next new level.
The second resolution I’ve made is to network and make connections. Almost half of my junior year has expired and opportunities to complete some of the major goals I’ve had are starting to arise. I’ve been looking to further my involvement with Fuel Up to Play 60 locally and state wide, contribute to the education climate in my state and district on a larger scale and be a louder voice for the advocacy of community service in my high school. While these areas may seem fairly different, my experience in the field has shown me that they are on in the same. I’m hoping that on my quest to accomplish these goals I come across areas where they connect and have mutual benefit. Knowing the right people is important for progress to occur, especially when it comes to research and event planning, therefore my ability to network will be crucial.
Good luck this New Year. I hope it is your greatest one yet! Always remember that your voice means something and to “be the change you wish to see in the world”- Mahatma Gandhi.
