Several exciting activities took place at the GENYOUth 2016 Florida Youth Empowerment Town Hall at the Raymond James Stadium, home of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Walking into a room filled with many change makers dedicated to the success of empowering youth made me feel proud to be part of a commitment to make a difference!
Panels of experts were able to share their insight on what possible changes can be made to really empower youth. Following the panel discussion, a room filled with dairy farmers, Program Advisors, CEOs, youth Ambassadors, registered dieticians, a Florida State Representative, representatives from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers organization and Publix supermarkets created action plans to empower youth to make healthful changes. Many great surprises took place such as when Derrick Brooks, former Tampa Bay Buccaneer linebacker and Pro Football Hall of Fame member announced his charity’s partnership with GENYOUth’s Adventure Capital. Sodexo also played a generous role in the event by providing a grant.
I was especially excited to play a role in YOUth Talks and really be given the platform to express how important the day’s event meant to students like myself who have grown with Fuel Up to Play 60 as a way of life. I was able to share my story about beginning Fuel Up to Play 60 in my elementary school and how much success I have accomplished just being able to be empowered to make change in my school and community. Sharing my story through a YOUth Talk really helped inspired a room full of change makers understand why it is so important to empower youth now!
