Outgoing, confident, unreserved, humorous, powerful, lively: all words used to describe Fuel Up to Play 60 Program Advisor and U.S. Army veteran, Mrs. Michelle Johnson. While traveling to our first Fuel Up to Play 60 Summit in Dallas, TX, I learned about her and other U.S. Army troops she met during her service time, including soldiers who went to: Fort Jackson, Goodfellow Air Force Base (SC), Leighton Barracks (TX), Wurzburg (Germany), Incirlik Air Base (Germany), and Adana (Turkey) from June 1993 – June 1996.
Mrs. Michelle Johnson is not only a nice, outgoing person, but an honest one as well. She said that the reason she enlisted in the first place is because she reached a time in her life where she wasn’t sure what she wanted to do, so instead of “wasting time,” she joined the military. While in Germany in 1994 she met her husband, and they’ve had three kids since she’s been honorably discharged from the Army due to her first pregnancy.
Mrs. Johnson doesn’t only care about her kids, though; she cares about everyone around her. When my school started a Fuel Up to Play 60 program in 2011, she immediately volunteered to help. She wanted to have an active voice in encouraging students in our district to develop healthy lifestyles. After all, happiness is rooted in how one feels and healthy habits makes one feel good about him/herself. Since becoming a Fuel Up to Play 60 Program Advisor, Mrs. Johnson has helped in the implementing of every Play to make our district full of Touchdown Schools.
This post is not only about Mrs. Johnson, but it is for Mrs. Johnson. You provide students with the knowledge they need and encourage them to make healthy choices daily, and saved many lives daily from 1993-1996. This isn’t just a thank you for your service then, but a thank you for your service now. Mrs. Johnson knows the importance of healthy habits, teamwork, and cooperation, and that’s why she continues to change the lives of students in our districts daily.
