Winning an AdVenture Capital Transformation Experience

This October, I was given the opportunity to represent my school and state at the AdCap Transformation Experience! From the first day to the last, it was an amazing opportunity, and I’m glad to be able to do something like this! Here’s my story.

I first found out about this opportunity at the 2017 Fuel Up to Play 60 Student Ambassador Summit in Minneapolis. There was a conference session about AdCap, and I decided to go since it seemed interesting to me. Sophia, one of the members of the AdCap team, talked to us about the Experience, and once I heard about it, I became more and more interested in the AdCap program. When the application came out, I applied and interviewed, and to my surprise, was invited to be one of the ten students getting to go on the experience, which included an all-expenses paid trip to Ann Arbor, Michigan!

After flying from the local airport in New Hampshire, I arrived in Detroit, where I met with Carissa (SD), Ronnie (NC), Elisabeth (CA), and Atziry (AZ), where we then drove to Ann Arbor. We settled in, and then got to talk to each other while waiting for the rest of the students to arrive! For the next couple of hours with all of the students, we got to get to know each other and get a briefing on all that was going to happen over the next few days. We then got to have a Communications training with the CEO of GENYOUth, Alexis Glick! She gave us lots of tips on how to get the message across when presenting our elevator pitches for our AdCap Projects! After the training, we went to dinner with the GENYOUth and Domino’s team, and then went to bed!

The next day, I woke up bright and early, as I was super excited for what was to come! We drove to the Domino’s World Headquarters, and took a quick photo shoot in front of the entrance! We then settled into a couple of hours full of intriguing meetings, like with the CEO of Domino’s, Patrick Doyle, and the VP of International Sales, Ritch Allison! We also got a sneak peek inside the Domino’s Test Kitchen, where we actually got to make our own pizza! Once that was done, we relaxed a bit by getting to have a night of fun with the AdCap team and all the students! We did Escape the Room, where we escaped with only two minutes and fifty five seconds to spare, and went to a Hibachi grill, which was great because some of the students had never gotten to experience a Hibachi grill before! After that, we went back to the hotel, where I had a meaningful conversation with my Roommate, Amogh (KY), before going to bed!

At the final day of the experience, we worked up to the last minute on all of our Project Designs and what we should do next when we arrive home. I finally got to hone down on certain things on my Project, which was to have a Grab ‘n’ Go Breakfast Station installed at the front of my school! We also finished up recording our videos of the experience, giving us memories of the trip to look back on, and also giving us a medium to share our story!  After that, we headed back to the airport, where we all left to go back to our respective states!

Looking back at the experience, I know I’ve learned a bunch of skills that will help me with my Project later on. From communication skills like presenting to adults from Alexis Glick, to learning what you want to target when surveying students, I learned a lot on how to carry out my Project effectively. I also think that this Experience is really going to help me develop FUTP 60 at my High School. We’ve always wanted to make a major change like that, but never had the funding to do so until AdCap came into our school!

That’s my story of the Transformation Experience! Hands down, if an experience comes up like this again, I would highly recommend people to apply for it. I not only got to have the experience of a lifetime, but got money for my school while doing it!
