Kingston Elementary hosted a back to school Bike Night and Fuel Up to Play 60 kick-off event this year. The back to school bike night was a night for families to bring their children to school and ride their bikes on a designated path. The Fuel Up to Play 60 team at Kingston provided the families with healthy snack items including water, oranges, apples, bananas, strawberries, grapes, and milk. Nutritional information was also given out along with door prizes that consisted of footballs, kick balls, hula hoops, and sidewalk chalk for hop scotch. Also, every student was provided with a jump rope as they went home.
This night was to provide families with an opportunity to ride bikes in a safe and controlled environment. We had about 100 participating Kingston students that night. That was the second year we hosted the Back to School bike night. This year was a huge success with parents and students learning about physical activity as a family and healthier snack options.
