FUTP60 Event ChicagoThis past Monday, December 9th, I attended the Partnership Renewal Celebration at Pulaski International School in Chicago, Illinois. I had been invited to speak at Fuel Up to Play 60’s five-year anniversary celebration where the program partners pledged their $250 million commitment! While I was there, I stayed at the Renaissance Hotel, one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. I had trouble getting out of the beds, though. It was really comfortable and it was pretty terrible that we only got to stay one night! Once we arrived at the school, I met a whole bunch of amazing people (who were famous, by the way). Ever heard of Jesse Jackson, Roger Goodell, Otis Wilson, Anthony Morgan, or George McCaskey? When it came time for the speech, I was nervous, as in really nervous. I tried not to let it show, and in the end, I did really well. Or, at least, that’s what other people told me. I barely remember what I said, let alone what other people thought about it. But, according to what everyone told me, I “hit it out of the park”. The point is, everything worked out eventually, and I was very proud to be a part of the event. I gave several media interviews and had many photo ops. But it wasn’t over yet.

A few hours later, I was on my way to the Chicago Bears football stadium for the Monday Night Game. It was a pretty insane ride, since we blew a flat tire on the way there. But, luckily, my dad was there to change it and soon we were on our way again. We were actually early, flat tire and all. Despite the freezing cold weather, it turned out to be a great game! It started out with me going out onto the field for the coin toss, which was an amazing experience in itself. Afterwards, my dad and I cheered from the stands as the Bears beat the Dallas Cowboys. With a final score of 45-28, it was an experience I won’t forget anytime soon. Mainly, just always remember that getting nervous is perfectly normal. It’s about overcoming that fright and getting done what you set out to do.
