I was super excited when I was asked by the Western Dairy Association to attend the GENYOUth Foundation breakfast event on Friday, April 25! It was being held at Sports Authority Field at Mile High in the actual Denver Broncos’ locker room! The amazing people at Western Dairy asked me to talk about why I became involved in Fuel Up to Play 60, how the program had helped me personally, and how it has affected my school. I knew that this was going to be a very important event and I wanted to do my best and be a leader. I spent time during the week coming up with a speech that was just right and that would be effective in telling my Fuel Up to Play 60 story.  Every day leading up to the breakfast, I would practice my speech and by the time I talked about it two days before the event with Cheryl and Tami from the Western Dairy Association, I was pumped up and ready to go!

Once I got to Mile High, I was amazed! The breakfast was joined by the Denver Broncos’ captain and Fuel Up to Play 60 representative #30, David Bruton! He is such a cool guy who has a lot of heart for kids and is committed to the Fuel Up to Play 60 program. After I met David, I was introduced to so many nice people including dairy farmers, local business owners, teachers, and other school administrators.  By the time it was my turn to speak, I was only a little bit nervous. While I was speaking, I just remembered how inspiring Fuel Up to Play 60 is to my peers and tried to speak from the heart. I wanted to represent Fuel Up to Play 60 to the best of my ability, as I am so proud of it and the team we have in making a difference for our classmates, school, and community.

I think my speech went well. Afterwards, several people in the audience came up to me and told me the work we were doing made a difference and they were very proud.  They said Fuel Up to Play 60 was a great example of what today’s kids were about and they told me to keep doing what we are because it is working!  I think those in the audience who did not know about the program now have a good idea about Fuel Up to Play 60 and hopefully are interested in learning more about it!  It was a great opportunity to spread the word and I hope more schools will join the fun!
