Just a few weeks ago, I was in Texas attending the 2014 Fuel Up to Play 60 Student Ambassador Summit! The Summit taught me so much about leadership, public speaking, and myself. I had a blast!
The first day of the Summit was jam packed! When I stepped into the dorm building I was immediately stolen for a mini photo shoot. After registration we dove into all the activities! We walked over to a building called The MAC for orientation. Then, we all split up into teams with our Youth Council leaders and started the sessions. Finally the long day of learning was over and the dance was about to begin! All the Ambassadors headed back to the MAC after dinner and danced the night away!
The next morning everyone was up promptly at 6am, ready for anything. We had a nutritious breakfast and walked over to the MAC. We spent the morning listening to different speakers but, in the afternoon, four football players came to participate in different football drills with all the Ambassadors. That wasn’t all that was planned that day. After running all those drills we hopped onto buses to Group Dynamix! We got to complete different rope courses and do team building exercises. At first I was scared to do the course but, all my friends encouraged me to do it and they helped me face my fear of heights!
The third day was crazy! We all jumped on busses and headed over to the Cowboy’s stadium! When we got there we had a delicious breakfast and got to work on our networking skills with numerous business people. Networking was extremely fun! After breakfast my group and I participated in team activities and we listened to different speakers at each session. Later that night we went down onto the field to meet different business people and participate in different activities. That was extremely fun!
The last day was full of tears and hugs as every was getting ready to part ways. You could feel sadness in the air as all the Ambassadors went down to the lobby with all their luggage. After breakfast we all headed to the MAC for the very last time for the Quaker Up Energy Challenge and Team Showcase! All teams did an amazing job creating their storyboards and snacks. I know I had so much fun doing it! After the taste testing, we went into Youth Council lockdown where we could express our feelings to all the kids. We finally headed back to the auditorium to receive prizes and say our goodbyes.
The Summit was a life changing experience for me. Not only did I make many friends, I learned so much about myself. I learned that I like public speaking and networking! Fuel Up to Play 60 gave me the opportunity to find myself as a leader and I could not be any more grateful! Now I am ready to take all the skills I learned at the Summit and incorporate them as I strive to make my school and community a healthier place!
