For years, I have had struggles getting help and I still do. Some of these struggles include: needing help doing homework, a PowerPoint, remembering special dates or times or doing something from the Fuel up to Play 60 program. These struggles come from me trying to remember something (like doing my work or trying to remember where I left my stuff) because whenever I forget to do them I get consequences. Learning from those consequences is the most important thing because it can change how I will act or remember something later in the future. My biggest struggle is not remembering I have an assignment/project to do. This then makes it even harder when I need help on the assignment because the people who can help me are not available when the assignment is due or past due. I’m not saying I need help all the time, but when I do, it’s hard for me to start and finish without the help I need.

The first time I learned about the Fuel Up to Play 60 program I was very confused. I had never heard about Fuel Up to Play 60 or what we were to do. My teacher Mrs. Petersilie helped me understand the program and help me get involved in activities because I love being active and helping others have fun. One of the reasons it is so hard for me to understand and follow through on activities is because it is hard for me to think. My parents and my teachers have told many times (and I know I should remember) “if you get things done now instead of waiting to do it the day before it is due, you won’t have a hard time remembering” or “finish the assignment and return it  today, so then you don’t forget to do it later.” Most of those things, I actually get done right after it’s due. But is that the right thing to do? I don’t think so! Because I know I should’ve gotten it done when I got the task in the first place instead of getting done after its due. I know sometimes I feel guilty of not doing it or forget to do it the first place because I have let others down and made more work for others and myself. But for me, sometimes it doesn’t just take one try for me to learn my lesson; it could take two, five, ten or even a bunch of times. Now I try to think to myself. I work every day to make small steps to become more successful and learn from my lessons.

It took me a while to know all about Fuel Up to Play 60; understanding the program, how it works, and what it’s all about and how to get more people involved. At the end of the school year, I was eligible to apply for State and National Ambassador. I knew I wanted to become a National Ambassador but I was nervous for all it would take. I understood leadership but have never been in the situation to have to do interviews. When I got my first interview I was very nervous. Sometimes I felt like getting interviewed was like singing in front of a million people. But as I am getting more interviews I am less nervous and scared. It is almost like singing in front of 100 people instead.

When I learned I would be attending the Summit in Texas I didn’t know what to expect. Then I was told I would be interviewed in front of the camera. My teacher, Mrs. Petersilie, helped me prepare for the questions and I met a lot of people at the Summit who helped me conquer my fear and remember to not let that fear get in the way of the steps I took.  This whole experience felt like it would be very hard but it was actually not that bad once I got further into the process. I actually had a fun time doing the interviews and being on camera. Being involved in the Fuel Up to Play 60 program has helped me conquer fears and learn to prioritize in school, home, and throughout my community. I have learned so much and I want to help motivate other people and inspire them to be active and healthy.
