Recently, our Fuel Up to Play 60 group was asked to participate in a community event to help raise money for our Farm to School program. We asked anybody who would be interested in learning about healthy eating and physical activity to come. We had great activities in the gym including the Jordy Nelson 40 Yard Dash where kids would try to beat Jordy’s 40 Yard Dash time of 4.51 seconds! There was a cool photo booth and everyone could snap a selfie with a handmade “broccoli man”. We also had a half court contest for a chance to win great prizes.

After kids tried the activities that also included dancing, jumping, and boxing, we had them gather in the cafeteria for the first ever broccoli cook off event! Why broccoli? We wanted different teams to come up with an interesting recipe that included the veggie of the month, broccoli, so that the community knew we had great foods at our school and could have it at home as well! The winning recipe would be put on our school lunch menu. The groups presented to the “special guest” judges who included our Superintendent, some school staff, and the “Ultimate Packer Fan”. The judges picked the best overall recipe out of six teams. The judges decided that our very own Middle School Student Government team had the best recipe, which was roasted broccoli with Parmesan cheese!

Our other recipe, the “Packers Go to the Tropics” smoothie was named this because this is where we thought the Packers headed in the off season and this is likely what they drink to keep in great shape! Though ours did not win, we still are having it on the school breakfast menu because it was so good! To conclude the event, all were asked to go back into the gym for raffle prizes. There were over 30 raffle prizes to give away! Kids, parents, and the community were very impressed by the first annual Cook Off & Health night event!

Try making your own smoothie recipe for breakfast! Blend it. Drink it. Instagram it #FuelGreatness

I’d say 4.51 secs is pretty fast. What was the slowest time? What were other times? I do long distances though.
