Student empowerment. To many, that can mean different things. At my High School, student empowerment came into play when our Program Advisor got moved to the school counselor and her plate started overflowing. It was time for the students to step up.

It all started with one student wanting to build a Fuel Up to Play 60 homecoming float. One student started to recruit many other students; many other students joined to build a float, and they built one amazing float to recruit many other students. Those students worked together to accomplish many more things, such as an outdoor volleyball pit, rock wall, cardio gyms, and salad and potato bars. But it all started with one student.

Student empowerment can involve anything from coming up with play ideas to meeting with the administration to implement Plays. Student empowerment can mean leading Plays. Student empowerment can be recruiting new students. Student empowerment can be a group of students who work together. Student empowerment can mean being a voice for your program.

The point is, student empowerment can mean various things; but it all starts with YOU! Be a partner, be a friend, be a leader.
