Hey, this is Roddy, National Ambassador, and I wanted to give you some inspiration and ideas based on activities that I’ve worked on for Fuel Up to Play 60!

For our Physical Activity Play, we had a health fair last year for 6th through 8th grades (a little over 1,400 students). During a specific class period called “Enrichments”, students could participate in several activities that focused on physical activity and healthy eating. Each of the 16 stations was run by adult volunteers. The Fuel Up to Play 60 team helped advertise the event by hanging up posters and speaking to each of the grades. This school year, Fuel Up to Play 60 students will lead some of the stations at the health fair.

Here are a few examples of the stations:
• Learning basic karate moves
• A fun running station
• A station educating students on what physical skills are required for a fireman to perform his job. Students did each of these physical activities.
• A relay race station
• A healthy eating quiz – for every question answered correctly, you earned a point for your team. The reward for the winning team was getting to choose what exercises the losing teams had to do. The number of exercises was determined by how many correct answers a team received!
• A Zumba teacher leading dances
• Smoothie station with fun exercises

For our Healthy Eating Plays, we had students and teachers bring in healthy snacks during testing time to improve test scores. It worked!!! As a result, people started realizing the benefits of eating healthy and it was implemented in many classrooms. Teachers also created a new rule where only healthy foods could be offered during staff meetings.

Another way we educated people about Fuel Up to Play 60 was creating posters featuring healthy tips and the importance of getting at least 60 minutes of physical activity daily!
