As autumn comes to a close I want to share my experiences of what my school’s Fuel Up to Play 60 team has been up to for the past couple of months. To start off, I’m going all the way back to the first day of school. When I got back from the Student Ambassador Summit in Chicago I got straight to work. I created a video outlining the event, which I showcased to the whole middle school, grades 5 – 8. Once the school year got kicked off and we got our new team members situated, we led the school’s homecoming assembly. We promoted healthy eating habits, the importance of getting physically activity, and much more.

After this accomplishment, we went back to the drawing board to develop new ideas on how to promote the program throughout our school. We just recently held an event we like to call “The Midwest Great Apple Crunch”. We used grant money to buy a variety of locally grown apples for students to taste test during the lunch period. Positive feedback was obtained and I would recommend trying something like this in other schools across the United States. To finish off the season we held a pumpkin decorating contest. To finish off the 2015 year we will be going to two elementary schools with a Mini-Lesson and participating in a window on the community “Christmas on Main” event.

I hope these events have given you ideas to share in your community, and I hope to see comments on which ideas you plan on trying this school year.
