I have several things that I would like to do during the 2013-2014 school year. The first thing I have planned is to attend a Coordinated School Health meeting to try and get more schools involved with Fuel Up to Play 60 in my school district. I hope that sharing the success that we have had at Kingston Elementary will encourage other teachers to make changes in their own schools. I believe that once I present my information, they will see what a great program this is and that their students will want to be involved. I would like the Fuel Up to Play 60 program to be contagious in all of Madison County Schools.
The second thing I have planned is our “Back to School – Bike Night.” Bike Night has been a huge success for our school. This year will be our third year. Each year it gets bigger and better with more children and their parents attending. At Bike Night, we mark a designated path at our school for everyone to follow, so students and their families get to bring their bikes to ride in a safe environment with their friends. During Bike Night, we will provide everyone with a healthy snack, nutritional information, and door prizes that encourage physical activity.
The final thing that I will be working on with my Program Advisor is starting a walking club at school. I am very excited because this will be our first year putting this club together. I would like this to be something that not only gets kids active as a group, but also a group that supports and teaches each other the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. I think this school year will be full of fun and excitement for the students at Kingston Elementary. I can’t wait to get things started!!!
