I was recently cleaning out my family garden for the winter and decided to multi-task by exercising with the vegetables at the same time! Not only are they good for eating, but good for a workout too as they are quite heavy! Can anyone name the vegetable I am holding?

You guessed it! That is a big kohlrabi! I like to peel it and eat it raw (sometimes with a little salt), but some people like to cook it (boil) and eat it that way. Also pictured next to me is some purple kale, brussel sprouts and chives that we grew!

Each spring my family plants a large garden which we eat from all year long. Our extras during the summer we either freeze, can, or donate to families who aren’t as fortunate to have a garden.

My sister and I also exhibit them at our local County Fair. It is our way of educating the public on all of the healthy foods that you can grow yourself! We have to know a lot about each veggie as we get judged and answer a lot of questions about planting, growing, fertilizing etc. I even created a “veggie creature” which I exhibited and was awarded not on only First Place but a Merit award on top of it! It really helped to attract the attention of young people and get them interested and educated in gardening!
