Shortly before Christmas I saw on the news that the Salvation Army was dangerously low in raising funds during their annual bell ringing campaign. I was sad to learn that the cause of this was simply lack of volunteer bell ringers. I decided that I could make a difference and help right here in our community!
With the help of my awesome Program Advisors, it all came together very quickly! I contacted the Salvation Army and found out some available bell ringing dates at our local grocery store and presented that to my Fuel Up to Play 60 team. We quickly got some volunteers and started to help the Salvation Army by bell ringing. THEN….something even more exciting happened! We expanded the bell ringing to include a tasting of my Banana Berry Blast Bars that my team created at the Summit, as well as our local “Veggie of the Month,” which was cauliflower.
The shoppers loved it and it was a great success for everyone involved! Not to mention it was really a lot of fun and really got us in the holiday spirit! The shoppers couldn’t believe that we were giving away free healthy food! We also had my recipe there for them to take as well as a recipe for cauliflower. And of course we were sporting our Fuel Up to Play 60 gear as we told people all about the program! One of my Program Advisors even brought her entire family along to participate!

That’s really cool that you guys put two ideas in one with volunteering and eating healthy. I have also done bell ringing for a few years for the salvation army and I think you made the situation way more fun and tasty.
