Kids Influencing Our District Lunch Menu

Fuel Up to Play 60 Ambassadors celebrated Phase 1 of our kid-influenced district lunch menu this year. A few of our FUTP 60 Ambassadors are: Claudia in 8th Grade, Veronica in 6th Grade, Brytin in 2nd Grade, and myself, BreElle in 6th Grade! We prepared and presented a plan for a new kid-influenced lunch menu for our school district.

We introduced creative changes to our district’s lunch menu. We now have some days that have a theme, for example, “Taco Tuesday”. Plus we added our menu to www.nutrislice.com. This helps the parents and students to be able to look up and see what nutritional value their food has for each day.

Chef to School Competitions with the winner’s dish can be featured on the District Lunch Menu. We also asked for Grab and Go Fast Healthy Snacks. The Grab and Go Snacks are such a hit, they are usually are out by the time I have lunch (this is still a work in progress)!

We met at our district office café with Jamie Triolo, the Food Service Director, Bianca Lentz, the Assistant Director, and Anahi Aboytes Orta, the Assistant Director from Chartwell’s (they prepare the food for our school).

We were all engaged, had debates, and made sure changes were going to be made. Our next Wellness Committee meeting is to discuss what is working and if we need to make changes.

Here’s our Eat Healthy Cheer:
