Kids Mobile Pantry

These are kids who are POWERED by PASSION!

Our “Kids Mobile Pantry” was started by David Schwake, Food Service Director for our district in Arizona. St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance supplies and delivers all our nutritional food. Our FUTP 60 squad has teamed up with Mr. Schwake as his volunteer team. We help with bagging healthy food, breaking down empty boxes, cleaning up and handing out the bags of food to students and families. We volunteer most of the time on Fridays, but sometimes Thursdays. It has to be a half day at our school for us and a full day for the other school.

I am in a different district, and we meet at the schools in Mr. Schwake’s district to make this work. Once we get to the school, St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance has already dropped off all the food. Mr. Schwake has our squad get straight to work setting everything up. Different schools have different grades come out to help us. Most of the time it is 4th or 5th graders. We all show ownership in the pantry and make new friends. Our goal is to get the job done and cleaned up in 45 mins tops.

Students go back to class and we help hand out bags of food to parents who come pick up their kids. As students are dismissed, they grab a bag for the weekend. It is nice to be able to be involved in helping kids out and know they have a little extra food to get them through the weekend.

Being a part of our “Kid Mobile Pantry” has been a great way to spread the word about Fuel Up to Play 60 to other kids that don’t have the program as of yet in their school.
