Meeting with USDA in Washington, DC

Looking back upon my experience in Washington, DC, I simply cannot put into words how much fun I had and how impactful, on myself and others, it was to speak with people in our government about our thoughts on health and nutrition in schools. Meeting up with my fellow Fuel Up to Play 60 enthusiasts, Viren and Ayanna, spurred a plethora of conversation and brainstorming on what steps we would be taken for the future in Fuel Up to Play 60.

Here we took on the Capital – we ate lunch at the USDA and explored the U.S. House of Representatives. All the while we were meeting with people who were supportive of our cause and were interested in what the student voice had to say about it. The beauty of the city and the ideas we bounced off each other is something that has made a lasting impact on me. I can’t wait to bring my newfound knowledge and connections back to my school and Fuel Up to Play 60 team.

All of my thanks goes to my fellow Ambassadors who inspire me each and every day, all of the wonderful people who took part in giving us this opportunity and preparing this day, and to all of the individuals who took time out of their busy days to listen to us and provide their insight. If we can continue participating in these types of events and collaborating with people from every end of health and nutrition, we can make our dreams a reality.
