Josh M. Huddle PhotoThe most amazing thing happened to me this year. On April 17, 2013 at 9:27 PM, my life was turned upside down. I found out I was selected as a winner of the GENYOUth Foundation’s AdVenture Capital Grant. I was ecstatic! I received $4,000 in funding to implement my entrepreneurial program, Motivational Mondays. Since winning the grant, I have had the opportunity to do many incredible things. I have had the opportunity to go to New York to speak at the Vitality Institute launch with Alexis Glick, the CEO of the GENYOUth Foundation, attend the GENYOUth Leadership Roundtable, and attend the GENYOUth Board Meeting. At the Leadership Roundtable, I had the amazing opportunity to sit right next to Roger Goodell, the commissioner of the National Football League. Some amazing people were there, such as Dr. David Satcher, 16th U.S. Surgeon General, and WNBA superstar for the Tulsa Shock, Skylar Diggins. I got to meet my inspirational panel mentor, Zak Malamed, in person for the first time. My grandpa and I took Zak out to dinner, and he gave us a little tour of New York. I have also gotten to speak at the Midwest Dairy Council, Minnesota Division Board Meeting.

Another amazing thing is that I have gotten to anchor the Vikings Huddle TV Show. It is a family-oriented TV Show with the Minnesota Vikings, the first of its kind in the country.  The host is Paul Allen, Voice of the Minnesota Vikings. I have gotten to interview Cullin Loeffler, long snapper, and Phil Loadholt, right tackle. Phil Loadholt was definitely the biggest man I had ever met. He was 6 feet 9 inches and 343 pounds! I asked him how tall he was when he was my age, and he said 6 feet and 200 pounds! The show airs every other Saturday on the CW Twin Cities. Check out a clip from my episode here!

Motivational Mondays is an exercise program every Monday during recess, with different activity stations! We have experimented with new stations, such as Zumba, Obstacle Course, and Lightning, a fun basketball game. I have a 46-student Fuel Up to Play 60 team to work with, and I have established a “Board of Advisors”. It consists of about 5 other kids who meet with me weekly to give me advice and suggestions for the program. My Principal and one of my Program Advisors, Patrick Smith, have helped me so much throughout this program. Without my Program Advisor, I would not have applied for Adventure Capital. Because of GENYOUth and Fuel Up to Play 60, I think it’s fair to say that this has been the best year of my life.
