Last December I wrote about my 30 day plan to eat healthy and enjoy the holiday treats in moderation. I am happy to report my 30 day plan was a success! It turned into my 90 day plan and will be my ongoing plan.

As a competitive dancer I spend many hours each week practicing. There really isn’t an off season for me because during the summer I need to attend ballet intensives and take specialty classes to improve. I need to work on my flexibility and stretching every day. I have found the same is true with my eating habits. I need to make healthy choices every day!

From February to May is my competition season. All the work that I have done shows when I am on stage. All the food I have been eating shows on stage too!! If I have not been making healthy choices I do not have good energy and my performance suffers.

Dancers come in all shapes and sizes. Being really thin does not mean you are a good dancer. The same is true for your health. Just because you can fit into a certain size does not mean you are healthy! Each of us, no matter what our size, need to eat a balanced plate at each meal. This includes lots of veggies, fruit, dairy, protein, and whole grains. Skipping meals and drinking a lot of soda or energy drinks will quickly make you feel bad and your energy level will be really low. Eating a lot of junk food and sugar will weigh you down and will not give you the nutrients your body needs to play and grow. I start every day with a good breakfast. A healthy breakfast gives me the energy I need to start my day.

The best way to good health is through making nutritious food choices at each meal and enjoying sweets in moderation. I like to eat all kind of foods, and I love ice cream! I also love to dance. Luckily my sport keeps me active everyday all year long. I try to make good choices every day because I know I need to a have a lot of energy and endurance for my dance solos.

No matter what your size or shape make healthy choices, limit the junk food, and find an activity that keeps you moving and that you can enjoy every day. I’m enjoying a busy competition season, and I’m also enjoying great health! You can too. My 30 day plan to make healthy food choices turned into my 90 day plan. It is becoming my 365 day plan!
