I think my story can inspire others to Fuel Up to Play 60 because it’s so relatable. At one point or another we have to swallow our fear to face something, and starting the day off with a nourishing breakfast sure does help. My story starts last year in 7th grade when interscholastic basketball tryouts were about to start. Interscholastic is just a fancy way of saying ‘school team’, and in my school only the 7th and 8th graders are allowed to tryout. Being in 7th grade at the time, it was a little intimidating to tryout with the older kids. In previous years only a couple of 7th graders actually made the team which didn’t calm my nerves one bit. I was on the fence about whether I should do it or not, but my friends kept telling me I should tryout. “Even if you don’t make it,” they’d say “you’ll be prepared for next year.” Even with my friends’ support I kept psyching myself out before the tryouts. On the morning of the tryouts I made sure I had a nutritious breakfast and packed a healthy snack knowing I’d need the extra push before basketball. Just before the tryouts I got really nervous. It was the kind of nervous where your hands start to shake or get sweaty or you get butterflies in your stomach, but I knew I had to push my fears to the side if I was going to do my best at the tryouts. Thankfully for my smart choice in a snack I didn’t tire out easily while running back and forth on the court. I guess the coaches saw something they liked because I made the team! That’s a pretty big accomplishment especially for a 7th grader seeing that it’s really hard to get a spot on the team because of the large number of people that tryout. Basically the moral of this story is this: If you fuel your body with healthy foods, you can accomplish anything whether it’s a tryout for a sports team, an audition for a play, or even a class presentation.
