October 12 is National Farmer’s Day, and I would like to thank the Jersey Barnyard and the Frerich family for everything that they do for our community. The Jersey Barnyard is located a few miles east of La Grange, TX. It is a 100-year-old, 4 generation farm.
The Barnyard is a place where visitors can learn what farming and agriculture is all about. They offer Farm Tours, milk from Jersey cows, organic chicken, pasteurized chicken eggs, and pasteurized pork. Tours are for individuals, families, schools, and groups. Tours include a hay ride, and visitors can see a cow being milked.
The Jersey Barnyard raises animals and has a petting zoo. Also, approximately 100 cows are milked twice every day at the farm. The Frerich’s farm has 740 acres for pasture and hay. Throughout the year, the Jersey Barnyard has festivities including a Pumpkin Patch and Great Pumpkin Run in October and an Easter Egg Hunt in April. They also host birthday parties and offer ice cream.
The Frerichs have been milking Jersey cows for over sixty-five years. Their farm is home of Belle, The Singing Cow, that has been featured in Blue Bell Ice Cream commercials since 1991. The Barnyard has filmed over 8 commercials at different locations in the central Texas area.
