Students_2I am a winner of Fuel Up to Play 60, and I got to go to the 2014 NFL draft! I won after I completed Mini-Lesson #1, which was about leadership. By doing the lesson about teaching the first graders how to tell time, I learned that I am a diplomatic leader. When I got the notice and I told my mom, she did not believe me. But then she received an email, she called back to claim my prize!

We went to New York City by train. The train was cool but it was also crowded. I got the window seat so I could see the cities I passed. The seats were so comfortable and it had a tray. This was also my first time taking a train and I enjoyed it for two hours. When we arrived, the train station was big and crowded. I saw many shops that were open; it was a big difference from the small town where I live.

Once we got out of the underground, I was amazed by the city. Video screens 50 feet tall were everywhere. Everywhere I looked I saw a screen. My dad and I wanted to get a cab but they were all being used, so we had to go by foot. We walked about a mile but I didn’t even realize it. Our hotel was in Times Square. When we got to the hotel, there were two main floors, the ground floor and the lobby. The elevator between the two were the longest, the elevator that took us to our floor was faster. The lobby was the nicest place I have ever seen.

That night we went to the NFL Draft at Radio City Music Hall. As we got there, we got to go through the VIP entrance! As we got closer to our seats we saw that the place was packed. We saw a jersey customization shop. We also got free bags as we went to our seats. The Draft was so long I couldn’t stay awake to the end! On our way out we hit the jersey customization machine. We said that we would pick my jersey up the next day.

The next day we went back at around noon. We went to a behind the scenes tour and a scout talked about the difference between professional and college football. I got pictures on the stage and at my favorite team’s table. It was really cool.

That afternoon we took a boat tour to see the Statue of Liberty and the skyline of New York. We also stopped by Central Park and I climbed a rock that was bigger than my house at home. Later that night we returned to the draft and picked up my jersey. There was a big change in the excitement level compared to the first night.

It was the trip of a lifetime!
