When I attended the Student Ambassador Summit last summer, I received a grant from AdCap to create a project to help improve healthy eating. I named it Operation Eat Smart, and it is basically a booklet with healthy recipes that appeal to kids, intended for parents to help their kids eat healthier without having to take precious time out of their schedule to create a healthy meal.

I first thought of the idea in about halfway through June when I was brainstorming ingenious ideas for the Fuel Up! Innovation Challenge. I was thinking, “Our school doesn’t have a lunch program, so maybe this could supplement it.” Currently, we are in the development phase of the project, and I plan to enhance it much further. My deadline for completing the project is around March 10.

The project itself is an easy to read booklet that provides valuable nutrition information from a Giant nutritionist who I managed to contact.  I have not yet specified the exact length of the booklet, but it will probably be somewhat short for clarity and practicality.

After talking with a few families, they are very eager to see the booklet. Most parents said they were overwhelmed with trying to plan and incorporate healthy foods into their kids’ lunches. Many complained that the ideas they would find were too complicated or unappealing to their children. I have also surveyed my friends to see what types of foods they would like to see and I am trying to make all of my ideas kid and parent friendly so they would be more likely to utilize the project.  Once fully completed, I intend to distribute my booklet throughout the school.
