Jacob G. Smith Elementary is an awesome school. Our school has great academics, high expectations, and great teachers. We are proud to go to a school that also focuses on health and fitness. Fuel Up to Play 60 has inspired our school to change to an even better school. The students at our school are pledging to eat healthy, be fit, and have fun with their friends.
One way that we are eating healthy is with a new adventure in taste testing. The Fuel Up to Play 60 grant has allowed our school to purchase two smoothie machines. The smoothie machines will be used to make smoothies for taste testing days. The taste testing days will be used to expose students to fruits that they may not have had before. Data will be collected based on the flavors that students liked and the data will be sent to our school district, who will hopefully add these new items to the school’s lunch menu. The smoothie machines are also going to be used as incentives by offering a “smoothie party” for the winning classes in different competitions.
Another way that Fuel Up to Play 60 has inspired our school is to become more active. During recess, the students are able to use the walking fitness trail that was installed last year around the playground. We are going to use the fitness trail as part of the physical activity that we will track using the Fuel Up to Play 60 program to help us win prizes! Our school also offers several afterschool activities such as dance and soccer. This year, we are adding a Walk-It Club that will promote physical activity. The club will allow you to choose a buddy to participate with you. This will encourage you to have fun with your friends while staying active.
Fuel Up to Play 60 has inspired many schools and now it has inspired our school. It is an honor to be involved in this program. It’s super important to be active and stay healthy. You not only feel better about yourself, but you live a longer and healthier life. Step by step, our students are eating healthier, being fit, and having fun with their friends.

2013 is the year to eat healthy and exercise more
My school is great. This website inspired so many kids to eat healthy. I am so honored to be in Fuel up to play 60.
Fuel up to play 60 is a website that teaches kids to leave junk food behind and encourages them to start eating healthy so you are able to get more energy and you’re always active.
I agree. Our school has done pretty much the same and we too have been successful. I can’t wait to see what new and exciting events this new year holds for our school.
My goal for the year is to run a 5k/3.2 miles. I am trying to run it under 35 minutes:)
Good luck, we know you can do it! Staying active for 60 minutes a day will help you work toward your goal.
