I have exciting news! My High School held its very first Student Lead Wellness Committee Meeting. Mr. Vetter, a health teacher with over 10 years of experience, has always dreamed of having a wellness committee lead by students. He is a new teacher to our High School, and he invited all students to participate in the first meeting. He had a good turnout during the extended learning time at the end of the school day.

The students who participated in this meeting introduced themselves to each other and described what wellness activities they would like to see at the high school. They were introduced to the Fuel Up to Play 60 history by me, Andrew, and Courtney, another FUTP 60 Ambassador. Courtney and I had participated in many events before. While eating apples and drinking milk from local farmers, we came up with nutrition and activity ideas for future events and signed up for leadership ambassador duties for the council. It was decided the group would be called SWAG (Student Wellness Advisory Council). We agreed to utilize the Fuel Up to Play 60 organization plus GENYOUth and AdCap to build a Student Lead Wellness Program at the school for the first time ever.

The first event will be a smoothie making contest with a dairy base and green and gold fruits and veggies using the bike-smoothie making machine on Green Bay Packer’s Monday Night Football game day. Our goals for the year includes mentoring elementary students, and having parent paired with student activity nights. We will meet each Friday to plan events. We are all very excited to get started.

Whether you plan to get this started at your school or are thinking about something you may want to be doing in your life, consider these 3 important steps- 1. Dream Big, 2. Take the first step, and 3. Just Do It!
