Planning a BIG Event

How do you get over 1,000 middle schoolers to participate in a school club’s event?

This was the question that my FUTP 60 team was faced with. In my town, there is only one middle school, so the student body consists of over 1,000 kids. Having an event that would accommodate this number of students is a task that stumped my Program Advisors and student team members. However, after attending the FUTP 60 Summit in Minneapolis last summer, we got our answer. An entire day dedicated to FUTP 60!

I knew that this event would be challenging, but not impossible. My team, Program Advisors and I started planning this day, setting activities, and talking to the principal. Soon, our FUTP 60 Kickoff event was approved and we set a date. This process was long and hard, however, it was well worth it.

Our Fuel Up to Play 60 day was a huge success! Our entire school rotated to different stations both inside and outside. Stations included FLAG Football, tackling dummies, four square, exercising Tic Tac Toe, Smoothie Blender Bikes, and many more. Our stations were run by Fuel Up to Play 60 team members to give the leaders a chance to lead and teach their peers the activities. The day went very smoothly and our feedback was great! Students seemed to love the activities and were asking for another day just like this. Overall, my FUTP 60 Kickoff Event was a great way to get the word out about FUTP 60 and let the students get active.
