Top Point Earner for FUTP 60

Early this fall, I found out that I was the Top Point Earner for FUTP 60. I was asked to tell FUTP 60 who my favorite NFL Football team is, and of course, I told them it is the Green Bay Packers. After they found this out, they gave me a list of games to choose from so that I could go to a game. I have never been to Lambeau Field, and so I decided to choose the December 23rd Packers vs. Vikings game.

My dad and I were able to go to Green Bay, WI a day early. The first thing that we did was to take a tour of Lambeau. One of my favorite things on the tour was going on the field where all of the players play each week. We even got to go through the tunnel that the Packers run through before each game.  During our tour, we got to learn all about the Packers’ history and how they became a team and got their name. Once of the most interesting facts for me is that the Packers are owned by the ticket holders and Packer fans, instead of a millionaire owner. I think that this is why the Packers have such diehard fans, even when they don’t have a great season. The Hall of Fame had a lot of memorabilia related to Packer history, too; some of my favorite things were the Super Bowl trophies and the jerseys that have been worn by Hall of Famers. I sat behind Vince Lombardi’s desk (I felt like a boss!), and I also got to see the goal post from the Ice Bowl, which was the coldest game in NFL history.

While my dad and I were there, I got to go ice skating right next to the field, and we also went snow tubing.  It was pretty cold, so staying active and moving around helped to keep us warm and to enjoy our time in Green Bay. The temperature at kickoff was 4 degrees; my dad and I stayed warm by wearing many layers. I didn’t care about the temperature because I was about to cheer on my favorite team!

The biggest bummer of my trip and game was that I didn’t get to see Aaron Rodgers take the field. He had been injured earlier in the season by a Vikings player, and I had really hoped he would be well enough to play. Unfortunately, he wasn’t, and because the Packers would not be making the playoffs, they didn’t think it would be a good idea to risk continued injury during this season. This made it difficult for the Packers to beat the Vikings. The Vikings ended up beating the Packers this time, but I don’t think that they will win next year when Aaron Rodgers is healthy again.

I was so happy to be able to be at my first Lambeau game; I hope to go back many times to cheer on my favorite team! FUTP 60 has taught me to continue to work hard and to believe in myself. I feel pretty lucky to have won this adventure and plan to keep working with my team at my school as a Student Ambassador to promote FUTP 60.  Lots of my friends were excited (and a bit jealous) about me getting to go to the game, so I know that it will encourage our team to do great things together so that others can have an opportunity like this, too!  Thank you, FUTP 60!
