My high school Fuel Up to Play 60 team started the holiday season a little differently this year. We volunteered at the 6th Annual Thanksgiving Turkey Trot 5K Run/Walk put on by Finish Line Training in Kewaskum, WI. It is a really fun family event that gets our community out and exercising before sitting down and enjoying all of the holiday treats. Some families add to the fun by wearing various turkey attire such as homemade holiday shirts, hats etc.
My team was positioned at the start/finish line where we cheered and congratulated runners as they completed their run/walk and we handed out chocolate milk and trail mix. We also had a wheel that runners could spin and answer a question for a chance to win a Fitbit. It was an incredibly cold morning, but it was totally worth it considering all of the money raised is donated to local youth sports programs!
I would encourage the Fuel Up to Play 60 Ambassadors out there who don’t have anything like this in their community to work with their Program Advisors to get one started. It is so much fun and a great way to get your holidays off to a healthy start!
