Visiting a Dairy Farm

Recently, my school Program Advisor, Ms. Riley, arranged for the FUTP 60 team and myself to visit a local dairy farm in our area. While at the dairy farm, we were able to learn where our milk comes from and how it is made.

We were shown the entire process of how the cow is milked and the milk is prepared to go from the farm to the store and into our homes. It was such a great time. We had the chance to feed cows and to watch the milking process; I think that was everyone’s favorite part. Along with milk preparation, we talked about butter and yogurt.

Our tour guide spoke to all of us about the different agricultural careers and how important dairy farms are for the world. At the end of the day, she mentioned that she would be more than happy to come to the school and participate in a Farm to School Assembly for everyone and to speak more about careers in agriculture. She is also willing to help us with a smoothie test bar. I had a very good time and so did the rest of my schoolmates.
