From July 21 – 27, I attended my 4th Student Ambassador Summit, but only my first as a Youth Council member. Team 6 (my team) was blessed with some special qualities such as intelligence, respect, (and most importantly) maturity! They were all great leaders and knew how to do direct each other whenever I was unavailable. With some of the challenges we are given at the Summit, these qualities really pay off!

When the night of the Pizza Cook Off came around, our team got to work. We started to brainstorm ideas and nothing was really clicking. We had some wacky ideas/flavors that were thrown out on the table. But there was one idea that really caught our attention. We invented the craziest, most flavorful pizza ever created. The ingredients on the pizza were bacon, green pepper, and pineapple. We included the 5 main food groups in our pizza. The whole grain was the crust. The dairy was the low fat cheese. The fruit was the pineapple. The veggie was the green peppers, and finally, the protein was the bacon. Exactly what a FUTP 60 pizza should look like!

By the time the judges rolled around, we had worked together to create a great pitch and a poster. Though we hoped they liked our pizza and pitch, they did not show emotion. I was a little worried because of that, but that never made me give up hope. That night, before Team Talent Night, the results came in. “Third Place goes to…Team 10!” My heart sank. Second Place goes to… Team 15!” My heart sank even more. “But the winner of the Waring Pizza Cook Off is…TEAM 6!” I kid you not when I say this, I don’t think I have ever jumped as high as I did in my entire life, and that is coming from a guy who plays basketball! I was so proud of my team and the hard work they put into this.

It was one of the greatest Summit moments of my FUTP 60 Summit career. Team 6 was definitely “The Dream Team” and I was so happy that I got to be their Youth Council Leader.
