What does an Alumni Ambassador do?

This was the question I asked myself last spring. After a full year of so many amazing opportunities with Fuel Up to Play 60, I realized it was all coming to an end. Or was it? I remembered the reason why I signed up to be an Ambassador; to encourage all kids to eat healthy and exercise every day!

One of the tools I learned at the Leadership Conference was to create a 30/90 idea bank. I came up with 3 ideas that I wanted to do in the next 30 days and by day 90, I have completed what I wanted to do! This is a system that works as it gives me a goal, and I know I need to do the work to meet that goal. I’m sure the 30/90 idea bank will be used the rest of my life!

So, my 30 day plan was to update the power point that I had been working on all year. I also wanted to create a couple of tri-fold display posters to share. One poster tells about Fuel Up to Play 60, and the other poster tells about the Wellness Impact report. It wasn’t easy summarizing a 16 page report on a tri-fold poster!!! I also wanted to put together a scrapbook that showed everything I had done throughout my year as the 2012-2013 MN State Ambassador. My 30 day goal was to get all those items done and enter them at the County Fair as my 4-H Leadership project.

I knew I had come up with a good presentation that really promotes Fuel Up to Play 60. My 90 day goal was to present my Fuel Up to Play 60 presentation at the MN State Fair. The judging at the county fair went really well and my project was chosen to represent my county at the State Fair. I was also asked to do an Illustrated Presentation – a chance to give my Fuel Up to Play 60 presentation in front of an audience at the State Fair!!! This was my ultimate goal!!! What a great way to get the word out about Fuel Up to Play 60!

Luckily I had several opportunities in July and August to present my power point and tell groups about Fuel Up to Play 60 before the MN State Fair. Labor Day weekend, I was finally able to complete my 90 day goal. I presented my power point to an audience at the MN State Fair! My display board and scrapbook were on display for 12 days for thousands and thousands of people to look at. I also had five of the Princess Kay of the Milky Way Dairy Court come to support me and sit in the audience as I presented. That’s the great thing about being an Ambassador – you make a lot of friends along the way, and we all support each other!!

What does an Alumni Ambassador do?

We keep working. We may not be in the spotlight anymore and that’s OK! Our job is to take what we learned during our year as Fuel Up to Play 60 Ambassadors and keep spreading the word. Until the childhood obesity epidemic is over, we have plenty of work to do. So please join me and encourage all kids to make healthy choices and get 60 minutes of exercise every day and keep on working!

Fuel Up – Get Active – and MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!!!

I like your thought and the way you think of helping kids and keeping them healthy and strong. I think that we can push that thinking even farther and make healthy after school programs and show them what makes foods healthy and why they are healthy.

I agree @sonia4321!! Do you have any good ideas for an after school program? one that kids would enjoy and have fun while learning about healthy foods? and that kids would go to and learn? FUTP60 is always looking for new ideas!! 🙂
