Prior to the Student Ambassador Summit, students were asked to prepare a 3-5 minute speech on one of three topics: Why the Learning Connection Matters to Me, Why I think Businesses Should Support Schools Wellness, or How to Really Engage Youth in School Wellness. Winners Tyler from Colorado, Trinity from Texas, and Jacob from Alabama got to present their YOUTHtalks at the GENYOUth Foundation’s Nutrition + Physical Activity Learning Connection Summit in the Dallas Cowboys’ stadium!

In addition to these three winners, Fuel Up to Play 60 received a ton of amazing submissions. Check out some excerpts from just a few of our awesome Ambassadors below!

ON THE LEARNING CONNECTION:

Johnathon B. - OH“The Learning Connection matters to me because it helped me learn that heathy eating and exercise is good for learning. Healthy eating requires a balance of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins, plus essential vitamins and minerals.” – Johnathon, Ohio

ON BUSINESSES SUPPORTING SCHOOL WELLNESS:

Troy B - NJ“Businesses could donate money for healthier snacks. Businesses could also donate or provide gym equipment. Businesses also could donate a playground. They could even get a guest speaker to come in and talk about wellness… [all of these ideas] are great for school wellness.” – Troy, New Jersey

ON ENGAGING STUDENTS IN SCHOOL WELLNESS:

Alaina M. - MO“School Wellness is differently defined in every school, it could be anything as long as your whole school agrees and defines it in the same way. You could do something like my school with sports teams and grab and go, or it could be a special class or club. The main point of getting students really involved in their school wellness is letting them have control over the school. I think we students need to control our school wellness because who knows our peers better than us?” – Alaina, Missouri

Tony M - FL.“How do you get kids involved in school wellness? Hand them the dream. A dream that one day, all kids will be able to participate in a team sport of their choice, a dream that one day, no kid will have to pay to play that sport, and a personal dream to one day tell all of you about it. But most importantly, I’m here to share with you today that those dreams did come true.” – Tony, Florida
