Now that the new school year is just around the corner, I have been thinking about school, sports, and of course Fuel Up to Play 60! I just want to let you know what I have been doing, and what you can do to be ready for the next 2012-2013 Fuel Up to Play 60 school year.

So far this summer, I had the opportunity to go to the Fuel Up to Play 60 Ambassador Summit in Washington, DC. It was such an amazing, inspiring, and motivational event. I learned so much and met so many great and intelligent people, with which I shared ideas and gained new ones. There were many great speakers; my two favorites were Matt Cassel and LaVar Arrington. Both of them gave great leadership advice and inspired me to be the best that I can be. I learned so much about eating healthy and getting active; I was extremely sad when the summit was over.

Also, as Wisconsin’s Fuel Up to Play 60 State Ambassador, I was invited to attend the Fuel Up to Play 60 MVP Summit in Green Bay, WI. There, I met local ambassadors and Program Advisors who are making big changes and differences in their district. I heard their success stories and was amazed at all the hard work that everyone is achieving in their school. I was so happy to hear local achievements and what other Wisconsin schools are doing and what their plans are. Thank you to the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board and the Green Bay Packers for inviting my family and me to attend the Packer Family Fun Night Scrimmage and the MVP Summit.

Before you know it, we will be going back to school, which means we will be busy with homework, sports, and other extra-curricular activities. So get together with a group of friends before the summer is over and start making plans for this next Fuel Up to Play 60 school year. Start by getting ideas for your Fuel Up to Play 60 Kick-Off, start thinking about what healthy eating and physical activity plays you would like your school to implement this year, and get a group of friends together to look at the upcoming challenges.

I can already tell this is going to be a great year! I am so excited to represent the State of Wisconsin. So let’s get this year started!!

Oh, I already have a great year lined up for our FUTP60 club! I have our school’s superintendent coming to my school to wear a milk mustache and our local fire department will come and teach us how to exercise fireman style and wear the milk mustache. I will also produce a segment on our school need called ” Fuel Up Fridays” and give healthy tips. And this year is the year of the garden! I can’t wait to start our school garden. Oh, if anyone is interested, you can order free posters from the USDA for your school @ tn.ntis.gov/ and seeds for your garden. Also, Lowe’s is offering a grant for school gardens in their Tools For Education section. Also, check out nikeinc.com for school sponsorships. There are so many resources to do great things this year .
