Hello, my name is Ryan. I have lived in Colorado all of my life. I love the natural beauty of this great state. One of the things that we are most proud of in Colorado is what we like to call “fourteeners”. Fourteeners are big mountains that are over 14,000 feet in elevation.

One day when I was seven years old, my family and I were climbing one of the fourteeners, Pikes Peak. We were not planning to climb the entire mountain. But, as we were climbing, I made it pretty clear that I wanted to go all the way to the top. So, we ended up going all of the way to the summit.

Since then, my dad and I climb fourteeners every summer. To do this, we need to wake up early in the morning (3:00 sometimes!) and eat a healthy breakfast. We drive to the mountain and start as early as possible so we don’t get trapped up on the mountain when the thunderstorms roll in. We climb up, drink a lot of water when we climb so we don’t get dehydrated, and eat a lot of protein bars so we have the energy we need to get up the fourteener.

I have summated a total of 12 fourteeners in Colorado. I usually climb an average of four of them per summer. This summer I plan on doing some more so I can stay healthy and active throughout the summer. In Colorado there are over 60 fourteeners. My goal is to climb all fourteeners by the end of high school.
