What are YOU doing for your 4th of July this year? Here in Vermont we usually celebrate by going to fun parades, attending firework shows, and having barbecues. Our local parade goes right by our town library, so the town will usually cut up watermelons and hand slices out for free on the lawn during the parade. There are always so many fun activities to take part in too. A few times I even walked in the parade! It was a long walk and very warm out, but so much fun! There are usually field day type activities before the fireworks too.

The fireworks are always so spectacularly beautiful, and the parades are really cool, but one of my absolute favorite parts of the day has got to be the barbecues because I get to make a lot of really yummy things like fruit salad and strawberry shortcake! Here are some examples of some yummy yet simple 4th of July classic recipe ideas you can make and eat: fruit salad, general salads (pasta, Caesar, regular, etc.), cornbread, strawberry shortcake (it’s strawberry season in Vermont right now!), watermelon, hamburgers/hot dogs, and lemonade. In all, no matter what recipes you make, it’s almost always as fun to make them as it is to eat them after all the fun activities you have worked up an appetite doing!

Wherever you are or however you celebrate your 4th of July, have a happy one and have fun! 🙂

I really like how this post reminds us that one way to celebrate the fourth of July is to exercise our right to live happy, healthy lives. It’s something I think the Founding Fathers could really get behind!
