I have shared so many great stories and tasty meals over the dinner table. Now, in light of Family Meals Month, is a great time to share a meal with your family. When families take time to eat together something special happens; everyone connects on a whole new level.

Eating as a family allows for great conversations. Over the years, my family has shared stories, reviews of the day, and many, many jokes. I believe that the time we have spent over the dinner table has drawn my family closer together. I have also learned correct table manners from watching my elders.

When my family eats together we tend to have healthier meals. Included in the meal there is always fresh fruit, vegetables, protein, whole grains, and of course, dairy. Instead of eating out, we make a home cooked meal that also lets us experiment with new recipes.

Next time your family is deciding where to eat, suggest home. Cooking and eating as a family creates for a healthy, happy person. These tips are timeless; you can share them with your children, your grandchildren, your great-grandchildren, etc. Have a healthy, happy Family Meals Month.

I agree; I’ve always enjoyed eating with my whole family. We have great conversations, and I always learn something new from my parents. I get the chance to just relax with my brother too! Plus, there’s always laughter (that’s what makes family meals great).

Emma, you are very smart! I’m glad you signed my football! You are a smart role model for the ambassadors. You are right about eating with your family. It is super important and it brings everyone closer. I want to tell people who talk on the phone or text at the table in a restaurant to stop and enjoy your family. I love to talk, so I feel that I can talk all that I want at the table and I can’t get in trouble. I love to make people laugh and talk. I like to talk about the importance of each food to our health. Keep being determined in your efforts!
