When I looked at my meals I realized that most of them were not very colorful, so I decided to transfer my meals to more vibrant colors. The more colors on your plate the healthier it is. The greens, reds, and oranges are for vegetables, reds, yellows, purples, and oranges for fruits, browns for grains, and white for my dairy. I started with breakfast since it is the most important meal of the day, then moved to my lunch, and then to dinner.

Day 1: My breakfast usually consists of a bowl of cereal, but my transformed meal turned out being scrambled eggs, a banana, grapes, and a tall glass of milk. My dinner that night included a red apple, orange carrots, and a sandwich with turkey, lettuce, cheese, and whole grain bread.

Day 2: For lunch I packed carrots, a sandwich, a yogurt, and a red apple opposed to chips and a snack cake.

Day 3: Day three turned out to be more difficult. At this point my family was ready to go out for dinner, but instead we made tomato soup, grilled cheese sandwiches, and oranges.

Day 4: For breakfast I made a scrambled egg, a piece of toast with a little bit of grape jelly, a banana, yogurt, and a large glass of milk.

Day 5: To finish off my meals revamp my family made chicken stir-fry. There was chicken, broccoli, carrots, green beans, peppers, baby corn, and rice. After our meal though we all had a sweet tooth that needed to be satisfied, so we made oatmeal raisin cookies with a big glass of milk.

Starting my meal transformation I thought that it would be difficult, but really my meals ended up being more satisfying and tastier than before. So my call to you is to see which of your meals need more color and try to mix it up!

Emma, that seriously looks good! It’s not enough to use your sense of taste. but your sense of vision makes foods delicious. I love my reds. I love tomatoes, strawberries, grapes, apples. Reds for me are so delicious.

I learned in one of my classes that people respond better to bright colors. For instance, if you see red or yellow your brain responds differently than other colors. So stimulate your brain and eat colorful foods – it works!!
