Earlier this month I had the amazing opportunity to be on the student roundtable for the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports, and Nutrition. The meeting was held in Washington D.C. in the midst of our nation’s leaders. The council members present were very impressive including gymnast Dominique Dawes, skater Michelle Kwan, NASCAR driver Carl Edwards, and tennis champion Billie Jean King.

My role in the roundtable was to honestly share my opinions and advice about student wellness. I, along with five other students, expressed my ideas and learned from the council members. After my quick trip, I was able to reflect on the experience and see how much the people there really influenced my opinions. I felt that because I have spent so much time with the Fuel Up to Play 60 program, I have been able to learn necessary information that I needed to successfully share my ideas on the round table.

Overall, I learned that Fuel Up to Play 60 is not the only organization aiming to improve student wellness. Many people put countless hours and hard work into reaching the same goal as me, and each step that we take to improve student wellness, whether it is small or large, is extremely important. I think that the round table was an overall success that opened the eyes of many of the adults to see how much students care about health.
