Olivia L. Huddle Photo 3Here in North Dakota we are fueling up with oatmeal! Currently, our school serves muffins for breakfast. They will not be serving these next year, so our Fuel Up to Play 60 team took advantage of this situation to have a taste testing day for different flavors of oatmeal! The whole student body participated. We sent three team members to go get the classes to come down to the lunch room (to avoid hallway traffic jams). The rest of the team stayed in the lunch room, helping the lunch ladies prepare and pass out the oatmeal.

One thing that the students really liked was little cups of fruit we had set out for them to put into their oatmeal. After the students got their food they returned to their classrooms with it. We then sent out two team members to collect all the trash and the rest of the team stayed in the lunch room to help the lunch ladies clean up. It was a very successful morning and our commons smelled AMAZING from the oatmeal!

Great activity to determine new menu items. Also a great example of how student involvement does make a difference. Thank you Olivia and the Fuel Up To Play 60 Team.

Awesome job, Olivia & the Fuel Up to Play 60 Team! It’s so important for everyone to fuel up with a balanced breakfast. Allowing students to determine new menu items by taste testing and choosing a favorite is a good way to increase the number of students who will likely eat the breakfast. Keep up the great work!

We had a few different flavors: apple cinnamon, blue berry and regular. Those are the ones I remember. The only kind we had left after the students got their oatmeal was the regular. We totally guessed this would happen because regular doesn’t taste as good as flavored. (:
