It is hard to believe that the first day of school is right around the corner!  I’m excited to start middle school this year where I’ll be able to meet new friends, grow as a leader, and of course, get back to one of my favorite classes, social studies. To me, Fuel Up to Play 60 means eating healthy and getting plenty of exercise, but it also means helping to teach my friends and fellow classmates about the importance of being active every day and eating healthy. As the Kansas Fuel Up to Play 60 Student Ambassador, I’m up for the challenge in my new school!

I started getting ready for school in the beginning of July by attending the Fuel Up to Play 60 Student Ambassador Summit in North Carolina. At the Summit, I learned some ideas on building a Fuel Up to Play 60 club at my new middle school. I also made some new friends from around the United States and plan to exchange tips with them throughout the year.

After I returned home from the Summit, my next step was to meet and talk with my new middle school principal about starting a Fuel Up to Play 60 club. I worked with my elementary school’s Program Advisor to meet with my principal during student enrollment to share about the program and make a proposal to start a club at the middle school. My new principal is interested in the program and plans to talk with more schools who have participated within the school district. In the meantime, I’m going to start talking to my friends to recruit them to join Fuel Up to Play 60 with me. This way, when my principal agrees to start the club, I will already have a few students to join in on the fun!

Jessica you did a great job talking with the principal about the Fuel Up to Play 60 program. I love it that you are working already to get other students interested in being a part of the core group and doing it. Keep up the GREAT work!!!!!
