Hi, I’m Reagan. This is my first year at my school, my teacher is the Program Advisor for Fuel Up to Play 60. She got me involved in the program at the beginning of the year and I loved it! I decided I wanted to try and make a difference in my community so I got with my teacher and Dairy Council and came up with the idea to hold a milk drive for my community. I want to help those in need and this way I can get them fresh milk whenever they need it.
I began my milk project with “Holding a Hat Day” at my school. I raised over $100 to start off my milk drive. I then decided that I wanted to raise $1,250.00, and with the help of my teacher, she created me a “Gofundme.com” page. I began sending out tweets and Facebook messages to try and get others in my community to contribute to the fund. After a week, I had already raised over $500. I was very excited and just kept promoting the milk drive. My teacher contacted the newspaper and they put an article in our local paper with my picture to also help promote my project.
As the milk drive continued, my teacher saw a commercial for Disney’s “Friends for Change” service projects for kids. She thought this would be a great opportunity to help me with my milk project. Together, we filled out the application and crossed our fingers that I would get chosen to win help with the project. About two months later, Disney contacted my teacher and I had won a $500 grant to complete my milk project!
With the help of Fuel Up to Play 60, Disney and the people within my community, I was able to purchase and deliver milk to many people in need of milk within my local community. To this day, I have raised over $1,600.00 to purchase milk. I have decided that this money will not only help my community, but I will use it to purchase milk at milklife.com for my state.
I have learned a lot from this project and being a part of the Fuel Up to Play 60 team will help me continue to promote healthy and active lifestyles within my school and community!
