IMG_1062Fuel Up to Play 60 may be focused on school, but who says you can’t reach out to your community? Last winter, our Fuel Up team of student leaders entered a Fuel Up to Play 60 float in our local Christmas parade! This was a great opportunity to capture the attention of our community, make them aware of the program – and get them excited to see if their school was involved. In preparation of the parade, we talked with our local dairy council and asked for cheese sticks to pass out – they received a great response!! Also, we figured we needed a mascot to capture the attention of kids and adults too! Our dairy council let us borrow their cow costume and we got one of our Fuel Up mom’s to dress up in the cow suit and walk beside our float. IMG_1059To make sure the community really knew who we were, we passed out flyers with information on Fuel Up to Play 60, the website, and also a healthy holiday recipe. And since it was Christmas, we had our very own Santa who held a sign reading “Santa loves milk!” We got a ton of awareness for the program, as well as recruiting 3 new schools in our district! Although our participation in the parade was effective and easy, you don’t have to go all out to get attention in your community. Simply spread the word of what you do with Fuel Up to Play 60 by hosting an info booth or speaking at local events. This can make a huge difference! So what are you waiting for?
