Do you ever take a moment to realize how much our military does for us? Hi, I’m Alaina and I’m the 2014 Holiday Card winner for the Red Cross and the St. Louis Rams! I recently got the honor of having my card design made into 30,000 cards for people like you to write a little letter and send to our military.
I got my inspiration for my card from the military men and women. Most of them can’t get home during the holidays or they can’t hear from their family, so I wanted to give them a sense of home. I designed the card to yell, “Hey, nice to see you! Happy Holidays! We love you and what you do!” So I tried to capture that with the little boy and girl outside in the snow that just finished their snowman. It took a lot of time and brainstorming with my art teacher, but it was worth it!
I attended an unveiling where I got to hear how my card could affect people and got to learn more about The American Red Cross. There were AMAZING speeches given by Missouri Congresswoman Ann Wagner and Regional American Red Cross CEO Cindy Erickson, but what struck me the most was the veteran there who spoke about the card he received years ago. Made by a little girl, it had made his experience worth fighting for and gave him new hope.
Overall, I loved the card unveiling and I was very honored to have been chosen as the winner!
